On Saturday, June 18, 2011, history was written at Webster Hall (The Ritz) at the No Remission "Through Blackened Skies" record release show. When we arrived at the venue at 4 o'clock to conduct interviews for an upcoming DVD that showcases the state of the New York City Heavy Music scene, the sun was shining and everyone was really pumped about this very special night for the entire community. After chatting with some of the bands and with some key figures from the scene, it was time for Left In Ruins to do what they do best: deliver a crushing display of brutal Metal filled of very technical guitar parts and positive energy!
After grabbing a few beers and greeting the crowd, the surprise of the night took center stage. Arcane Malevolence performed a highly energetic set and got the pit initiated for the storm that was about to unravel at Webster Hall. After a few minutes of peace inside the pit, Alekhine's Gun melted everyone's faces with their furious flavor of Heavy Metal! Goddamn, these guys are getting good and sounding tighter and tighter. The sense of unity that this band possesses is a message that is transmitted to the pit army that stands strong whenever they step on a stage.
Closing this historical night was No Remission who presented New York City with their brand new album titled "Through Blackened Skies" (Click to read our album review), we had personally seen this band live and they impressed the hell out of our ears. The band not only possesses great stage presence and highly technical songs, but they play each song with balls and make the pit army lose their minds!
At the end of the night the dance floor had a lot of blood, sweat and tears, and a lot of happy people! What is going in New York City right now with Heavy Music is blood rushing and extremely exciting. We can't wait to see the DVD which will include every bands performance and plenty of interviews! At present time there are many great "unsigned" bands that are making a lot of noise within the tri-state area Heavy Music scene. It is hard to grasp on the fact that only a few years back, the scene was diluted and bands were not working together like they are doing right now. Prove of this is how No Remission, Alekhine's Gun, Left In Ruins, and Arcane Malevolence, with the help of their fans, came up with enough money to shoot and track the upcoming No Remission "Through Blackened Skies" record release show.
The gameplan is to produce a documentary that showcases the current state of the tri-state area Heavy Music scene. Horns Up Rocks will be sponsoring the event, and our founder Jo Schüftan will be there conducting all interviews for the DVD. Here are all the show details:

In the last year Horns Up Rocks has become synonymous to top notch event production within the New York City metropolitan area thanks to our ability of uniting the Heavy Music fans of the tri-state area. After the success of the March Metal Beatdown and the Dark Arts Music Festivus, we are rejoining forces with Brutal Bitches Productions and bringing you the Sindependence Metal Bash! On Saturday, July 2, 2011 we are taking over Fontana's Bar in New York City!
The event will not only celebrate America's Independence from the British, but it will also mark the release of "Death of the American Dream": the brand new album of Long Island's Heavy Music titans Lies Beneath. We are very proud of hosting this special show and to return to Manhattan for what promises to be an amazing event. Lies Beneath performed at "Hixonfest" (the first Horns Up Rocks event ever) last summer at Ace Of Clubs, and totally killed it.

Currently the New York City Heavy Music scene is going through a historic period of time, in which bands, fans, and promoters are uniting in order to make New York City "The Capital of Metal". While some are still trying to divide the scene, the masses are coming out to every show and are determined to keep the scene growing stronger than all. As you all know, Horns Up Rocks has served as a channel for both bands and fans to bridge the gap.
On Saturday, May 28, 2011, Horns Up Rocks is uniting Metallic forces with New York Heavy Music icon Tim Martinez from No Mercy Metal, and Chris Keene, to bring the masses a night of headbanging, crushing music, and drinking! Why should you come to a local show? Well, because if you don't support your local scene, then don't dare saying that the local scene is dead and gone. On Saturday March 5th, Horns Up Rocks and Brutal Bitches Productions are bringing some furious Metal to The Trash Bar in Brooklyn. We have some of the best underground Heavy Metal bands in New York, we also have Kara Pain from Liquid Metal hosting, and Horns Up Rocks founder Jo Schüftan will be blasting some Heaviness in between sets. Ever since we first had Alekhine's Gun pointed to our heads, we have kept a close watch on this furious New York City band. Hailing from Brooklyn, the band is composed by Jessica Pimentel (voice of steel), Jeff Martinez and Paulie Pisano (shredders), Angel Cotte (skin basher), and Daniel Martinez (groove meister). If music can be used as a weapon, this band is armed to the teeth and extremely dangerous.
It all started in June 2010 when Jeff (A.K.A. Sheprock) approached Jessica (A.K.A. The Crusher) with some tracks he had written. The Crusher loved the effects the music had on her eardrums and she immediately started jotting down some lyrics. Next thing you know she allowed the dragon that lives inside of her mouth to come out and play, and the Alekhine’s Gun terror plot was in full effect.
From that moment on their game plan has been to create something extreme that scares the neighbors, and grabs Metaleros by their throats! Their crushing music blends various elements of Heavy Metal and Hardcore in a chaotic yet beautiful way (as long as you see beauty through disorder).
After seeing them perform live, and listening to their music over and over again, there is no doubt in our mind that as long as Alekhine’s Gun remains focused on their furious craft, they have the right artillery to take the world hostage!
