Immigration Voice plans to organize a nationwide meet-the-lawmaker drives in every state and every district. Two of our volunteers – Varsha and Sanjay – would be helping us to organize this. If you would like to meet with your lawmakers during this recess, then please email Varsha and Sanjay at varsha@immigrationvoice.org and sanjay@immigrationvoice.org respectively and simply put “Need Meeting Info” in the subject line of Email. They will send you all the information that you need on seeking the appointment, taking the right material with you, making a good case for reform and doing the follow-ups if necessary.
Feel free to ask Varsha and Sanjay for any other questions that you have. They have met with their Congressmen and Senators a few times and they would be glad to help you do the same thing in your state and district.

This is the perfect time to meet the lawmakers, as they would be in their constituencies just before they go back to work on Immigration this spring and summer. In order to capitalize on this opportunity, it is very important that everyone meet with his or her legislators locally during this Easter recess of Congress. The members of the House will be in their districts between 2nd April and 13th April. The members of the Senate will be in their states between 2nd April and 9th April.
Please use the time between now and the Easter recess to seek appointments to meet with your Congressmen and Senators in order to draw their attention on the need for reform in high-skills immigration.

Well, what is the point in saying it now, he should have said it in the 90s and early 2000 when industry was booming and people found a career path in coming to the US.
Right now, so much work is outsourced and it is continuing. Very difficult to get a IT job in US on h1b and IT consulting on h1b also facing so many hurdles. For any new immigrant on a software job who wants to get a h1b visa and green card - it is not an easy task.

Just need the $$$. Though there are many good to learn from this company and this man, I do disagree with his views when it comes to immigration to USA.

The problem here is not just the TB skin test, but the blood test that tests for HIV and the other STD. It is mandatory for the Civil surgeon to draw blood and check for these. My civil surgeon told me he will not accept these 2 tests from any other doctor. I got the TB skin test done at a local clinic before the medical appointment and he accepted that.
Also, XRAY's are NOT madatory. Only if you have a positive reaction to the skin test then you are required to do the XRAY to rule out TB.
About, sending the medical reports later, all discusssions here point to the fact that there is no concensus. It would be every attorneys call if they want to submit without the medicals. But, remember USCIS document clearly states that you are REQUIRED to submit medicals. No where does it mention that you can send it later on. So, in the event that you do not submit your Medicals and they reject your I-485, you will really have NO legal basis to appeal other than make a plea.
I also agree with the person who warned you about the flights getting delayed. You are cutting it too close! Your wife needs to come back earlier. If this is an emergency, then she should come back, get medicals done, submit I-485 and then go back. All this can be achieved in about 4-5 days. Ask for an EMERGENCY appointment at the consulate. PLEAD your case. Dont walk away from the consulate till they give you an EMERGENCY Appointment
I strongly suggest that she shoudl catch the next flight back and return. You are not going to get this "chance" anytime soon again.

The meeting with Rep. Pete Stark's district director Jo Cazenave went very well. She had a little idea about, but was not fully aware of EB process for obtaining GC, and was impressed with our presentation that explained the process in graphical manner. Jo confirmed that Congressman Stark was against illegal immigration and also clarified that he was all in for high tech legal immigration. She listened attentively and took notes. She showed more interest in knowing facts about provisions of S.2454 and Spector's mark up that would reverse provisions of AC21 and Sen. Fienstein's amendments to these proposed bills. She repeatedly reminded me to make sure to forward more details on these after the meeting. I've sent her these details in the 'Thank you' email after the meeting. As it has been the case with outcome of other lawmaker staff's meetings, she suggested that we agressively meet with as many lawmakers as possible - especially in DC, seek support of big companies who hire EB workers and encourage people to contact their congress reps in case of unacceptable administrative delays. Jo has extended her invitation to members of IV to attend Rep. Stark's town meetings. (The next one to be held on 1st Apr'06 in Newark - details on http://www.house.gov/stark/contact/townmeeting.htm ). She asked my personal experience with the GC Processing and how it has impacted me. She noted down my home address and promised that she will not only convey a picture of the issues faced by EB immigrants to the rep, but also have him contact me via mail for anything he might have to say or ask.

Per lawmaker we recently met(WA state), it is imperative that we also get our message across to lawmakers in the midwest and south.
Due to resident strength and businesses employing H1B people(who end up getting stuck in retrogression) in the west and east coasts and large metropolitan cities, the lawmakers in these areas are slightly more aware of our issues. They also get funding from local companies that employ people stuck in retrogression.
However, representatives in the MIdwest and South do not get a lot of funding from local businesses that employ H1Bs and have other local issue that they would rather pursue(agriculture, etc.).
It is imperative that awareness is spread in the midwest and south !!

If this is true, how come CIR is one of the main agendas of democratic party. Also remember hispanic votes were a deciding factor in the last election. GOP acknowledges that. Moreover voters demographics has changed since last election. Electorate is comprised of higher percentage of forward thinking younger generation.
IMO anti-immigrant racist voter percentage will be on decline in coming years. So democrats/gop is better off catering to the likes of this younger generation.
Actually it is like the "Gareebi Hatao" (translation: Remove Poverty) slogan for the Democratic party. Something to be used in certain districts for election only.
Just like Gay Marriage issue for Republican party.
In fact Rahm Emanuel (key strategist of the democratic party and one of the people credited for the success of the Democratic party in the election) said immigration
is the third rail of American politics.
It is the independent voters that decide a election, not the core democratic(ultra liberal) or core republican(ultra right wing) supporters. Passing an CIR will piss off
a significant portion of these independents and will create a swing against the Democratic party. A very small swing can create devastating losses in the swing
states.
The immigration issues is in a factor in the 1st generation Hispanic community whose parents are illegals.

thanks for your supportive words for CP filers now CP filers need some relief as they are not able to get an EAD/AC21. I think we could ask to allow CP filers to file 485 with out having dates current and conserdering their CP filing date to get EAD and AC21.

I dont think Ron Hira has ever worked in IT side or on the HR side. Whats wrong if people for pursue for Masters or Phd for GC?. This Guy does not have any idea about the value this techs bring.

I am a physician MD currently doing IM residency on H1B. i have a job to start from oct 2007. since PDS for india are now current, i would like to know if my employer can file PERM for a prospective employee now in june. my univerdity lawyer is not clear or rather not willing to file.

I recently moved to Houston TX for a new job on EAD and got a vertical driving license which is valid till 2015 but there is a line printed on it "Temporary visitor status expires july 2010" which is expirary date of my EAD card...
I think I will have to go to DMV again after getting new EAD card in 2010 to revalidate the new date
