Pay and move forward. Most of us have spent years to get this stage. Do not spoil it now....hopefully more $$$ will pour in once you get past this stage!
I guess most of the folks here are busy preparing to apply for 485. I have different problem here.
My employer's attorney is charging me outrageous fees of around $5000 to
apply for 485, AP and EAD for me and my spouse. This excludes USCIS fees. I work on hourly basis, so I should be taking care of immigration fees. My employer is not allowing me to file through another law firm.
Do I have any other options. How much do they charge usually.

This will be a catch 22 situation. If they retrogress to 2004, then how would they know to process the 485 application based on PD. They will keep on processing the 485 based on RD. If they see some PD of 2004 or earlier, they will approve else they will continue the 485 processing.
Come on now, you may not have of heard of it, but I am sure USCIS has heard about databases. While I am no database guy, but I am sure something to the tune of
SELECT * from BLEEPED_UP_TABLE where PD <= CURRENT_PD and STATUS = "Still hanging on" will get them the cases that they need to work on.

We just received news that the Judiciary Committee hearings which were supposed to run until 1.00 pm today and also tomorrow have been postponed to March 27th. Apparently the deal is that the Judiciary Committee wants to put pressure on Senator Frist so that he does not introduce his version of the bill bypassing the committee...

Thanks for the AC21 letter format. What do u mean 6yrs - minus remaining time? So, lets say, I'm in the 5th yr of my H1B. So the remaining time is obviously 1 year. My 485 is pending. So, will I get an extension of 6-1 = 5 yrs of H1 extension???:o If so...that wud be gr8. Pls emphasise on what u mean by that calculation.
I mean to say 6yr - used time (if you are in 5th year) then it is
6 - 5 = 1 yr remaining. (if 485 applied and you still have 140 approved - you still get only 1 yr ext)

Receipting is not done by VO and the staff who do receipting follow certain procedures.
USCIS mailroom has certain protocols and thats why even our AC21 documentation does not reach file.
Files are distributed to different officers and they work on the files.
Without a receipt number you cannot track your MTR.
Talk to a very good Attorney on further course of action.
I filed MTR - my 485 was denied because the officer ignored the AC21 job change. When I called customer service and explained - I was transferred to a VO and when I explained it, she requested me to file an appeal so that I don't have to pay instead f MTR.
When I talked to Attorney - she said "Don't do that - when your MTR gets receipted, you can track it but cannot track an appeal"
Remember MTR = if USCIS makes a mistake - MTR costs $$
Appeal = if you want AAO to consider various factors on a correctly interpreted denial and appeal to see if you can convince.

So jsb if congressman and Ombudsman doesnt work either is there anything which will work ? Can one actually go physically to the Service Center and ask to speak to the PRO (Public relations officer) or something ?
I have heard on this forum someone doing that, i.e. flying to Texas and asking to meet those who matter. Initially they did not entertain him, but eventually he succeeded. It costs nothing trying via the Ombudsman route, may be a bit if a hassle via the Congressman route. You should try both. Mention your situation, clearly bringing out the anomally. Ask if you are cleared on all fronts and your PD is current what is holding up. It might work....Best of luck.
